Rowntree Park serves up tennis coaching

Throughout the summer Rowntree Park is running a full coaching schedule to cater for all ages.  The sessions are suitable for beginners, rusty rackets and those that have played a bit before.  A fully qualified LTA coach will be on hand to put you through your paces. 
There are sessions running on various times and days throughout the week so you’ll be able to find one that suits you best.

Acomb Green summer fair

Sat 27 Aug, 1pm to 3.30pm

This is the last of the summer fairs by the Ranger Service this year and will be opened by the Mayor.
 There will be face painting, bouncy castles, community stalls, birds of prey and much more to do and see.

No Parking is available, please use alternative transport.

Celebrate Ability

Tue 23 Aug, 10am to 4pm at Energise

Energise is hosting a one-day festival of disability sport, offering citizens of York the opportunity to come and try out a wide variety of disability and inclusive sports. Activities include Paralympic sports such as swimming, athletics, boccia, football, goalball, wheelchair basketball. There are also sessions for the other accessible forms of physical activity that are available within the City of York including wheelchair rugby, danceability, new age kurling, and gymability. Residents wanting to try climbing, swimming and the gym will need to book their place directly with Energise Tel:01904 552424. The day will feature special guest Alan Rayment, Paratriathlete, who hopes to represent Great Britain when his event is included in the Paralympic programme for the first time in 2016. The day will also celebrate Energise successfully gaining reaccreditation of the Inclusive Fitness Initiative for their gym. Solar expedition on 2 wheels

Mon 22 Aug, 6.45pm to 8.45pm - Guided cycle ride starts from underneath Clifton Bridge, Water End

This 2-hour exploration will take you along the recently improved Orbital route on a mix of on and off road routes. Ride suitable for those who are confident on roads and in traffic. Ride not suitable for trailers or recumbent cycles. Please ensure you bring lights, as the ride will finish in the dark. You need a road worthy bike, spare inner tube, suitable clothing and a drink. Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Batty about bats

Enjoy a night time walk in the dark with the experts looking for bats using bat detectors - don't forget your torch!

Sunday City Cycling Extravaganza

Sun 21 Aug, 5pm to 8.15pm, start at Duncombe Place, York

This free event will take place on Sunday 21 August  and will feature a variety of fun races for local residents, as well as competitive races for amateur and professional cyclists. Competitors will follow a route that runs through the heart of the historic city and promises to be an action-packed evening for both competitors and spectators.
Amateur competitive cyclists from across the region will go head to head towards the end of the evening in an Elite race, which looks set to attract professional riders from across the UK, will provide a thrilling finale.
Also an opportunity to make a day of it – visit the Latin Festival in the Quarter (the Swinegate area) or the Lord Mayor’s Children’s fun day in the Duncombe Place area – something for all the family!  Visit: http://www.britishcycling.org.uk/

Teenage Kicks

Raising funds for TEENAGE CANCER a family fun day to raise awareness of the risk to young people.

“I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at at age 20 - I had just given birth to my first son. I spent a month in Hull Royal Infirmary on a ward with older people with cancer totally unaware that teenagers and young adults could get this horrendous disease”. This young Mum and her friends will be organising a family fun day with music, dancing, activities, games, giveaways from Minster Radio, stalls etc and hoping to raise awareness and funds for this very worthy charity.  For more information go to:

Park to Palace

This away day walk is part of the York Health Walks programme. This 6 mile walk along country tracks and footpaths is designed for the intermediate walker. The walk includes a few stiles. Toilets are available at the start of the walk and half way at Bishopthorpe. Please bring lunch, as refreshments may not be available until after the walk, in Rowntree Park cafe. Car parking is available at a charge at Rowntree Park however the local bus service and the Park & Ride service offer better value for money.

York’s biggest craze to hit York is coming to a village near you. Since the success of Nordic walking courses in the local parks we are now bringing courses to villages. Come along for a taster in this full body Physical Activity session. Suitable for all abilities and the majority of fitness levels. Kimono have some fun

Come and join us for lots of Japanese cultural activities! Calligraphy, Origami, Traditional Storytelling, Kimono Try-on, Japanese cakes.  We also have demonstrations by Doshin Kenyukai Kendo Club (martial art of sword-fighting) and Kaminari Japanese drumming group!
